Ended up buying the Corolla. I’m quite happy so far, I don’t think I could’ve managed to find a cleaner car for that money.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
There are no scratches larger than 1 cm, and the interior feels like new. The dealer also gave it a full service included in the price, and I can drive 2 years before having a new TÜV-check. The 1.6 pulls well over the whole range, and has plenty to give even at 150 km/h. Should be a good car the next three years or so.

I like that, I wish they’d sold it here.

The 3-door is the rare one of the European model too.

Clean car, but can I ask why a Corolla? You being the rally fan and all. I haven’t driven that generation, but I did drive the frog eyed previous one almost a decade ago. Also very clean, very grey, 3-door and only 60k km. I somehow was glad when I was back in my mk2 Golf with 54 hp and almost 300k km. N ot because that Golf was so brilliant, but it did make me ‘feel’ something. Unlike the Corolla.
Not meant as a
critique, I’m merely curious.

Of course I’d love to have something with rally pedigree, but I realized that I will never be able to really notice that in northern Germany. This model is a huge leap forwards compared to the earlier frog-eyed (I tried a 5-door once) , and it was considered the class-leader at the time. I also wanted something that would give me as few problems as possible . I would consider both the Corolla and the Golf 4/5 as rather boring , but at least the Corolla is the less common one. It is basically a well maintained car that should serve me and my girlfriend the next couple of years with as few hiccups as possible.
